“Easily and safely grips and lifts stainless and porcelain cooking grids.”
The Big Green Egg Grill Gripper is a very simple, but necessary tool. The tool is chrome plated steel, which means durability and rust resistance. The proper way to use the Grill Gripper is the “under-hand grip,” providing the correct leverage and stability to safely move your grid. Be careful not to use the “over-hand grip,” which doesn’t provide any stability and may cause you to drop your Stainless Steel grid. Check out my demonstration video below to get a better idea on how to use the Big Green Egg Grill Gripper.
Why I Bought My Big Green Egg Grill Gripper:
I didn’t own a Big Green Egg Grill Gripper for the first year I had my Egg. To lift my grid, I resorted to using the hook on the back of one of my grilling utensils (the hook used to hang it next to your grill). Needless to say, this was not the easiest way to pick up my grid. I generally ended up with lots of grease and gunk all over my arms and hands after trying to move the grid around. This got old very quickly and I became increasingly frustrated every time I needed to pick up my grid. Thankfully, I received the Grill Gripper as a gift so all of those problems disappeared. I can now pick up my grid (even when it’s hot!) to change cooking configurations, clean my Egg, or for any other reason without getting my hands dirty.
What’s Good About The Big Green Egg Grill Gripper:
The Grill Gripper is a stainless steel tool that is uses leverage to allow you to easily pick your Stainless Steel Grid and avoid any mess on your hands. The tool is extremely easy to use, maintains a tight grip on the grid, and doesn’t slip easily. Because the tool is made of stainless steel, it is highly resistant to rust and will last a very long time. One advantage to having the Grill Gripper is that it lets you change cooking configurations while you’re still grilling because you can pick up your grid even when it’s hot. There’s not much more to say about the Grill Gripper. It’s not a very flashy accessory but it is well built, does its job, and does it well.
What’s Not So Good About The Big Green Egg Grill Gripper:
I don’t have many negative things to say about the Grill Gripper because my experience with it has been mostly positive. I did drop the Grill Gripper once and it slightly bent the pin that allows the tool to open and close. Slightly tapping the pin back into place solved the problem, and I have had no issues since.
